In a distant galaxy, a "Shane"-type hero is forced to defend a band of settlers on a remote planet from a squadron of scientifically engineered warriors led by his personal nemesis. Todd has been trained from birth to be a crack soldier, but when a new generation of genetically engineered fighters replaces him, he is unceremoniously dumped as trash on a garbage planet. There he is nursed to health by ragtag settlers, only to discover that his erstwhile superiors plan to try out their new soldiers by annihilating the planet.
